Trimbakeshwar Shiva Temple is an ancient Hindu temple in Trimbak, Trimbakeshwar Tehsil, Nashik District, Maharashtra, India, 28 km from Nashik Highway. It is dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva and is one of the twelve jyotirlingas where Hindu genealogical records are kept in Trimbakeshwar, Maharashtra. The holy Godavari River originates near Trimbak.[1] Kusavarta Kunda (holy pond) in the temple premises built by Shrimant Sardar Raosaheb Parnerkar who was fadnavi of Indore state. It is the source of the Godavari River, the second largest river in the Indian subcontinent. A bust of Sardar Fadnavis and his wife can be seen on the Kunda scroll. The present temple was built by Peshwa Balaji Baji Rao after it was destroyed by Mughal ruler Aurangzeb.

Architecture –

The temple is situated between three mountains, Brahmagiri, Nilagiri and Kalagiri. The temple has three lingas (iconic form of Shiva) representing Shiva, Vishnu and Brahma. The temple tank is called Amritavarshini, which measured 28 meters (92 ft) by 30 meters (98 ft). There are three other water bodies namely Bilvatirtha, Viswanantirtha and Mukundatirtha. There are images of various deities namely Gangadevi,Gautameswara, Kedarnatha, Jaleswara, Rameswara, Rama, Krishna, Parasurama and Lakshmi Narayana. The temple also has several cloisters and samadhis of saints.

Sita Gufaa: In the west door of the Kalaram temple in Panchavati, Maharashtra is the cave where Sita was when Ravana (Ramayana antagonist) came to kidnap her in revenge for Lakshmana cutting off his sister Surpanakha’s nose.
